Metal Extrusions, Components and Jigs Stripping

From Structural Steel to Sensitive Metal Components, Keep Them Distortion Free.

Aluminium extrusions such as window frames need a perfect finish to withstand the elements and stand the test of time.

Our products do not cause de-tempering, and strip threaded components with no damage, maintaining strength and an ideal finish, ready for painting.

Aluminium extrusion profiles and components require coating removal. Whether it's for rejects, reprocessing to another colour, or cleaning jigs.

Our preferred process to remove paint from aluminium extrusions and components is WR-STRIP. This is a low volatility stripping medium based on Benzyl Alcohol. It is designed to remove polyester and epoxy polyester powder coatings from most metals with minimal attack on the base metal. This is unlike some other benzyl alcohol based strippers which can attack alkali sensitive metals. Coating removal is completed in a suitably designed plant, with circulation and filtration. Removal is by a "disbonding" process which returns the polymerised coating to a powdered form ready for filtration using a filter press.

Benefits In Use

Used at lower temperatures
Typically 40-50°C

Less susceptible to drag-out on the work
Chemical designed to be thinner to prevent drag-out

Considerably less susceptible to loss by evaporation
Use of low-volatility solvents ensures minimal evaporation

Strips more cleanly than Methylene Chloride Alternatives
Leaving a fresh, paint-ready surface.

Proven extended bath life
With proper maintenance, a bath can last years

Lower overall attack on aluminium substrates
Our formulation contains inhibitors to prevent attack

Safety and Environmental Benefits

Based on biodegradable solvents
More acceptable to water authorities for rinse water disposal

Not Classified as Toxic or Flammable
Unlike Methylene Chloride/Methanol based strippers

Does not contain Methylene Chloride, Methanol, Phenol, 2-butoxyethanol or Monoethanolamine

When continuously filtered, hazardous waste is reduced
Hazardous waste is expensive to dispose of

Ingredients have no maximum exposure limits
Unlike Methylene Chloride and other hazardous chemicals

Very low Volatile Organic Chemical (VOC) content
Complies with European Solvents Directive

Jig Stripping

Alternative Processes:

Pyrolysis: Burning off the paint in a controlled manner such as a pyrolysis oven

Caustic Stripping: Immersing the jigs in a highly concentrated solution of caustic soda or potassium hydroxide at temperatures of above 85 C. The addition of solvent accelerators, often diphase(floats on top) or glycol based and also suitable surfactants will speed up the process.

However, these methods are not applicable where you have more sophisticated jigs i.e. Where you have;

  1. Spring loaded tips, which would anneal at oven temperature
  2. Complex and delicate construction
  3. A jig made from aluminium rather than steel

WM-STRIP is a cold Dichloromethane based product, used for general purpose stripping of a wide range of finishes and also for jigs where the finish is regularly stripped. Operated with a water seal, WM STRIP is the preferred bond release paint stripper.

A-STRIP is a powerful, Dichloromethane based product, used at room temperature. A-STRIP is used exclusively for polyester and epoxy polyester coatings. It works by dis-bonding the powder coating & reducing it back to powder form. This an then be removed by filtration or by desludging.
A-STRIP successfully strips extrusions, components or jigs and leaves a passive surface.

EFX is an accelerated, Dichloromethane based stripper for components and jigs where either a wide range of coatings or difficult epoxy coatings are to be stripped.

WR-STRIP is our alternative to Dichloromethane strippers for polyester and epoxy polyester coatings. Based on benzyl alcohol it operates at 45 - 50°C with circulation and filtration. WR-STRIP dis-bonds the powder coating for ease of filtration.

AL-STRIP EC. AL-STRIP EC has extended to be one of our best selling products. Benzyl Alcohol based, it is highly effective at removing a wide range of coatings from a wide range of substrates, both components and jigs.

In addition, Confederate Chemicals manufacture a wide range of pre-cleaners, acid pickles and de-watering/protection solutions which can be found on other pages on this site.
